The Bauhaus movement started in 1920 until 1934. The movement occurred due to the influence of the German Bauhaus school founded by Walter Gropius. The aim of the school was to rebuild society after World War ll.

The ethos behind designs created by the school focused on necessity and functionality in order to create change post war. The Bauhaus style of design became internationally recognised following the emigration of Walter Gropius to the US.
Bauhaus buildings have common characteristics which they can be recognised by. Examples of these characteristics include: simple geometric forms, asymmetry, modern materials such as glass and concrete, smooth facades.
Pictured below is an example of architecture from the Bauhaus movement. The building is Bruno House, 3 Strauss Street by Ze’ev Haller, 1933.
